Created between 1919 and 1920
by a group of citizens of Rovereto as a reminder of the recently concluded
conflict and to celebrate the war of liberation which
united Tentino with Italy, the Museum was opened in the Castle on
12th October 1921 by King Victor Emanuel III. |

Because of the proximity
of the battlefields to Rovereto (Rovereto and the surrounding area
were on the front line) the Museum very quickly became one of the
most important centres for the collection of information on military
history of the Great War thanks to numerous donations by private citizens,
by soldiers, officers, families and ex-combatants.
In the following decades, the Museum extended its interests to
other eras and to others conflicts.: from the modern era to Italian
colonial wars and to the Second World War.
Even today the Museum is run by an association, conserves arms
and uniforms of the countries that participated in both World Wars,
photographs and pictures, documents and memorabilia. Alongside the
permanent exhibition, the Museum organises temporary exhibitions,
promotes study and research, publishes works of historical interest
and participates in film productions on subjects related to its
field.
